Chicago Halloween Movies

Updated on April 6, 2013

Scary movies filmed in Chicago or good places to watch scary movies in Chicago on Halloween

Fantastic opportunities abound in Chicago to view your favorite Halloween movies in a whole new way. Whether you're watching The Shining outdoors by the Chicago History Museum or visiting a vintage theatre to watch the original Phantom of the Opera with an organ accompanist, you'll find plenty of Halloween Hollywood activities in the windy city.

Portage Theater

The Portage Theatre in Portage Park is the home of The Silent Film Society of Chicago, as well as being an excellent place to catch a horror movie. Some of the events they had in October 2012 included:Chicago Horror Film Festival, Chicago Horror Film Festival, Chicago Horror Film Festival, Chicago Ghost Conference III, Chicago Ghost Conference III, The Mummy Double Feature (1932 and 1999 versions - introduced by Svengoolie), The Phantom of the Opera (1925, starring Lon Chaney - with organ accompaniment by Jay Warren), Terror In The Aisles 9 The Ultimate Horror Triple Feature,

Movies In The Park Halloween 2011

The Chicago History Museum and Daley Plaza are the venues for these flicks.

You could catch either Silence of the Lambs or The Shining in a continuation of Chicago's Movies In The Park program in 2011. Both films were shown with free admission in the Uihlein Plaza at the Chicago History Museum. Daley Plaza will be transformed into Franken Plaza and had a free outdoor viewing of Beetlejuice. The 2011 schedule is outlined below. I wonder if they'll revisit this for 2013.

  • Silence of the Lambs - October 12 at 6pm - Chicago History Museum
  • The Shining - October 26 at 6pm - Chicago History Museum
  • Beetlejuice - October 28 at 5:50pm - Daley Plaza
